I had a friend who did the one in March and said how great it was and how much he learnt so i filled in the form online, sent it off and here i am. I decided to take part because it’s an amazing opportunity to be able to speak to people who are interested in science and want to know more. I go into schools a lot to talk to students about my research and careers in biology but this seemed like such a novel and cool way to interact i had to try it. Also, having the opportunity to win money to put on my own event for students to learn about the world of parasites is amazing. Even if i don’t win though it’s a great chance to encourage students to follow a scientific career or get more interested in science!

I agree with all of Rebecca’s reasons. I’ve also found it interesting to take part in something that linguists normally wouldn’t take part in because they are not scientists in the ‘classic’ and stereotypical sense. It’s a challenge and a great opportunity to share my passion for languages and meet lots of interesting colleagues and students. I think it’s really important to be in touch with students and learn about their views. Your questions have been really inspiring!

I can’t remember how I heard about it initially, but once I read through the website it seemed like such a great opportunity to talk to loads of school students about Science. That’s one of the parts I love about my job – telling other people about how great Science is, and especially inspiring them to get involved. I hope I can do that for you too!
