There is a pigment called melanin which is responsible for the colour of our hair. We produce increasingly less melanin as we grow older, this is completely natural and makes our hair turn gray. At what age we start going grey seems to be determined by genetics, but there seem to be a lot of factors that may increase the rate of this, for example smoking, nutrition and apparently even stress.
