      Since most foods come from living organisms (plants or animals), they tend to be made up of much the same stuff. Proteins are the basic building blocks of cells and so anything which contains cellular tissue (e.g. meat or plant matter) will contain some protein. In an egg, the main constituents (apart from water), are protein and fat. Almost all the fat is contained in the yolk along with a little bit of carbohydrates.
