Propane is C3H8 – the three carbons form a chain, and then add hydrogen on all the spare bonds (each Carbon can make 4 bonds).
Propan is one of the ‘alkanes’ and they all have the formula C(N)H(2N-2).
So the first is Methane CH4, then Ethane (C2H6), then Propane. There are also Butane, Pentane, Hexane, Septane, Octane, Nonane, Decane and you can keep going!
