Not at all! When I was really young, I wanted to work in a shoe shop! As I got older, I really enjoyed maths and imagined myself becoming an accountant or a banker. But then as I progressed through my A levels, I became more and more interested in science and decided to study biochemistry at university. As I was finishing university, I decided that I wanted to stay in science and start a PhD.

I always wanted to do something with computers – I love programming. I was also very inspired by science fiction writers like Isaac Asimov and Arthur C Clarke. As it turned out I was very good at both Science and computing, so while I might not have imagined doing what I do now as a child, it all worked out well in the end!
