• Question: In your work, you said that you look at parasites that makes insects glow. What chemical reactions or what takes place to do this?

      The glowing is caused by the bacteria in the parasite and this is caused by a special gene, called a luxCDABE gene. This gene encodes a luciferase and its enzymes which, when bound, emit light.
