  I personally think that blood transfusions are very important and can definitely save lives. However, all people have the right to decide for themselves what they want and don’t want to do with their body – it’s a very personal thing and I think we should respect that.

  That’s more of a moral rather than a scientific question. In our society we have two clashing ‘laws’: the first about preservation of life at all cost and the second about freedom of religion. Which one takes precedence in this instance? I don’t think there is a straightforward answer. Why not try discussing it with your collegues?
