Light is created as a by-product of the nuclear reactions that occur in the sun (mostly Hydrogen fusing together to form Helium). Once all this fuel is used up, the sun will die out and stop giving out light. Even once the sun is relatively ‘cool’ it will still radiate quite a bit of energy as light, but not nearly as much as now. I wrote a bit more about the death of the sun here:
