• Question: Why do you find language so interesting?

      Hi Niamh,
      Great question! I think language is really interesting because it is at the heart of everything we do. We talk to each other every day, we use language in our thoughts, writing this reply to your question I use language, and science would not be possible without language. We need language to express what we see, believe, think or feel, or to express what we expect from others or want others to do.
      I also think that it is really interesting how effortlessly and naturally children learn their first language. However, when you’re an adult, learning a language seems to be much harder and it seems to be really difficult (or even impossible) to achieve the same level in a foreign language as you have in your first language.
      Do you find language and languages interesting?
