• Question: What happens if a mother who has O negative blood is carrying a baby with O positive blood?

      Usually it’s no problem because the mother’s and baby’s blood stream do not mix – nutrients are passed from mother to baby via the Placenta. Problems can occur if there are complications, and the mother’s immune system recognises the Rh proteins in the baby’s blood and develops antibodies against them – but this is easily treatable nowadays.
