To summarise: think globally, act locally! Pollution is a matter very close to my heart. During my studies and current work I had numerous chances to look closely at how pollution affects the environment (air, water, soil, biota and humans) and I was shocked to learn how quickly a single and a small source of pollution can become a global problem. For example, an untreated contaminated effluent from a mine or a factory can very quickly reach the local rivers and than the seas. The sea/ocean currents then transfer the contamination further affecting land masses which are hundred are thousands of miles away. That is why pollution should be everyone’s problem and everyone should do their small bit to help keep their local environment clean.
Don’t do it! Try to reduce your own environmental impact (think carbon footprint, waste disposal/recycling, growing own food), and encourage politicians to put in place incentives to get others to change too!
