Question: Is there a chance of the earth splitting in half one day?

Really unlikely – all of the things that might hit us that would be big enough to split the Earth in half are all in stable orbits around the Sun i.e. the other planets. There are plenty of things which would be big enough to wipe out the human race (comets, asteroids) though!
