We hope so! However, bacteria and viruses that cause illness are able to mutate and become resistant to the drugs and antibiotics that we develop. As you may have heard in the news recently, we are facing a major global threat of antibiotic resistance, whereby most of the treatments and drugs that we use today are becoming less efficient at curing illnesses, because the bacteria and viruses have evolved in a way that renders the drugs useless. Therefore, we face a constant battle between the development of new drugs and the possibility that bacteria and viruses become resistant to them. We want to remain one step ahead of the bugs!
